Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What are S&B Tanks made out of?
A. S&B Tanks are made out of the best quality high-density crosslink polyethylene. S&B Tanks hold many advantages over metal fuel tanks. S&B Tanks will not rust, corrode, demlaminate over time, won't have condensation like metal tanks, and are more resilient than metal tanks.
Q. Will my fuel gauge and distance to empty(DTE) still work properly?
A. S&B Tanks reuse the factory sending unit. Whether or not your tank comes with a new S&B fuel float arm. The float arm will continue telling your trucks computer the fuel level and even with a bigger S&B Tank, the fuel gauge will remain accurate. The distance to empty(DTE) will not be accurate as the trucks computer is still programed with the capacity of the smaller stock fuel tank. S&B Tanks has partnered with EZ Lynk to make changing your DTE free and easy. With a purchase of a S&B Tank, you have the option to receive a EZ Lynk for 15 days. Simply plug in the EZ Lynk to the OBDII port, download the EZ Lynk App on your phone and after you select the appropriate fuel tank size, your DTE will now be accurate. You won't need to leave the EZ Lynk Auto Agent 2.0 connected.
Q. Can I Install my own S&B Tank?
A. We work hard to incorporate ease of installation into the design of each and every tank we manufacture. We also make installation instructions for every model to make your life easier.
Q. What kind of testing is done to make sure my tank is good?
A. We pressure test every tank before it ships. If it doesn't pass, it doesn't ship. Our install instructions state to pressure test your tank before the install. The pressure test before the install is important to make sure the o'ring is seated properly and no other leaks are occurring on the tank
Q. What trucks can I recalibrate the Distance to Empty with an EZ Lynk Auto Agent 2?
A. Currently, the EZ Lynk can be used to calibrate 2011-2016 Ford Powerstrokes. We will keep you updated with other applications that are compatible.
Q. Can in bed tanks be used with S&B Tanks?
A. On S&B and OEM diesel fuel tanks, there are one or more rollover valves. The rollover valve uses a float/weight to close the valve when the float is immersed in fuel. This prevents fuel leakage in the event of a rollover. Gravity feed tanks or electronically controlled feed tanks can overfill the S&B or OEM tank. If/when the tank is overfilled, the rollover valves will prematurely close. Without the required vapor space in the tank, this violates the “overfill restriction” requirement of 49 CFR 393.76(12)(i). An overfilled tank can lead to a pressurized fuel tank, leaking, and tank failure. The use of a gravity feed tank or electronically controlled transfer tanks(that allow the S&B tank to overfill) in conjunction with a S&B Tank is dangerous and will void the warranty of the S&B Tank.
